The employment of artistic images from the Holy Quran in Ibn al-Rumi's poetry

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the extent of Ibn Rumi's interest and influence on the Holy Quran, even though he was not originally an Arab, but he had understood the Holy Quran well and had also learned the Arabic language well.This study was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method.This study was conducted in two areas: first in the field of the Holy Quran, and second in the field of Ibn Rumi's poetry; the Holy Quran as a holy book with a great style and extraordinary content, and Ibn Rumi's poetry with the various tendencies that the poet addressed.This study contains results, some of whose important results can be mentioned here:The poet's cultural breadth, including the recognition of the original Islamic heritage, which is the Holy Quran at the forefront.The poet's genius and his influence on Quranic words and concepts and their use for various poetic purposes.The poet's use of Quranic stories in his poetry and the use of narrative text in terms of events and temporal and spatial structure, which led to the expansion of the poet's horizon and connected him to the Quranic texts, and this is evidence of his linguistic ability and deep understanding of the text of the Holy Quran.In explaining the poetic image, the poet uses the Quranic lexicon in various forms of metaphor and simile, which are inspired by the Holy Quran.The use of sensory images (audio and visual) in poetic texts is evidence that the poet was completely fluent and fascinated by the Arabic language and was able to combine it with the Holy Quran.

Introduction
This study addresses Ibn al-Rumi's artistic ability to utilize the Qur'anic text. In his poetic creations, Ibn al-Rumi found a rich and comprehensive correspondence with the Qur'an. The poet attempted to connect his poetic output with Qur'anic tales and stories. What prompted me to pursue this study was my intense passion for the Book of God Almighty, ever since my early childhood, contemplating and reflecting on the words of God Almighty. My other love of literature was the second factor that led me to choose a poet who was not Arab. Critics and researchers' opinions about him were numerous, profound, and varied. He used Qur'anic terms that may be difficult even for Arabs themselves, requiring them to refer to language dictionaries to interpret them. How could he, a poet who was Roman on his father's side and Persian on his mother's side, include Qur'anic images in his poetic verses? The poet's brilliance, linguistic ability, and deep understanding of the Quranic text contributed effectively to his use of the Quranic verses, including their time, place, events, and characters, in poetic texts until they became explicit and condensed references to them. Metaphor is an important element of a literary work, lending it captivating artistic beauty and being a pillar of eloquence. The Quranic imagery, including metaphor, is one of the most creative, comprehensive, and precise imagery. Therefore, the poet follows the Quranic imagery to draw from it, and thus his poems appear to radiate with the Quranic influence. Similes are one of the most important means of imagery for both ancients and moderns. They are considered a primary measure of artistic quality by critics and scholars due to their ability to stir souls and alert minds to the intended meanings, whether praise or blame. Quranic similes stand out from other forms of Arabic speech due to their distinct characteristics. Similes in the Holy Quran are an essential part of the meaning; without them, the meaning would be incomplete. If they are omitted from a sentence, the meaning would collapse completely. Hence, we notice many similes in Ibn al-Rumi's poetry collection taken from the Holy Quran.
Materials & methods
This study is descriptive and analytical. It examines Ibn al-Rumi's poetry, which contains artistic images from the Holy Qur'an, using the poet's Diwan and books related to the poet's poetry.
Discussion & Result
Linguistically, it means saying one thing while intending something else. It is noteworthy that the style of the Holy Quran is the most perfect, and the metaphorical style within it is beyond imagination and perception due to its wonderful expression and beautiful imagery. Its meaning can only be understood by those who have experienced the sweetness of the Holy Quran. Sensory imagery, whether auditory or visual, was a topic of our research, because the eloquence of the Holy Quran does not stop at always depicting the human senses. Rather, it extends to depicting moral phenomena, such as moral values ​​and religious positions, such as worship and beliefs, in sensory form in many verses. A shiver often strikes when one hears verses of the Holy Quran. Quranic music and its use in Ibn al-Rumi's poetry were also present. Quranic music refers to the harmony of letters in words, the harmony of words in sentences, and their distribution within structures at intervals that create melodies and moving sounds. This research also addresses Quranic music, in which the poet's intention in his poetry must be consistent with the Quranic image, such as the comma, for example, in order for this correspondence to function. The comma in a Quranic verse is like the rhyme in a poetic verse. Therefore, poets were aware of the Quranic comma until it became widespread and the rhyme took on an important position among them, adorning their poems to make them more beautiful and more compelling. The poet benefited from the Quranic lexicon to express his various life experiences by employing it in his diverse poetic themes, including satire, praise, elegy, and description, seeking out what is consistent with them in word and meaning. The poet also interacted with the Quranic text and blended with it until the Quranic text had a clear impact on the context of his poetic meaning, complementing it.
Conclusion
The study focused on two areas: the first, the Holy Qur'an, and the second, the poetry of Ibn al-Rumi. The Holy Qur'an, with its great style, sacred influence, and profound content, and Ibn al-Rumi's poetry with its various orientations, revealed and highlighted the following:

The poet's extensive culture, both in ancient and Islamic heritage, represented by the Holy Qur'an.
The poet's skill and the breadth of his influence on Qur'anic terms, through their use in various poetic purposes, while clarifying the poet's intended goals when employing these terms.
The poet's use of Qur'anic stories in his poems is evidence of his linguistic prowess and deep understanding of the Qur'anic text, which significantly contributed to the narrative text's use of events and its temporal and spatial structure. This expanded the recipient's horizons for the poetic texts by connecting them to the Qur'anic texts, which the poet referred to in their literal meaning, or as a central theme, to align with the poet's vision. 4- The poet drew on the Quranic lexicon to explain the poetic imagery, which appeared in various forms, including metaphor and simile, all inspired by the Holy Quran.

5- The poet leveraged his linguistic prowess by employing the devotional terms mentioned in the Holy Quran in his poetry.
6- He employed sensory imagery (auditory and visual) in his poetic texts. This is further evidence that the poet was so closely associated with and passionate about Arabic that he was able to blend it with the Holy Quran.

کاربست تصاویر هنری قرآن کریم در شعر ابن رومی

چکیده

هدف از این پژوهش بررسی میزان علاقه و تأثیرپذیری ابن رومی از قرآن کریم است با وجود اینکه او اصالتاً عرب نبود، ولی از قرآن کریم به خوبی استنباط کرده و زبان عربی را هم به خوبی فرا گرفته بود.این پژوهش به روش توصیفی – تحلیلی در دو حوزه انجام شده است: اول در حوزۀ قرآن کریم، و دوم در حوزۀ شعر ابن رومی؛ قرآن کریم به عنوان کتابی مقدس با سبک عالی و محتوای خارق العاده­ای که دارد و شعر ابن رومی با گرایش های مختلفی که شاعر به آن­ها پرداخته است. برخی از نتایج مهم این پژوهش بیانگر گستردگی فرهنگی شاعر، اعم از شناخت میراث اصیل اسلامی که قرآن کریم در صدر آن است. نبوغ شاعر و تأثیرپذیری وی از واژگان و مفاهیم قرآنی و استفاده از آن­ها برای مقاصد مختلف شعری و نیز استفاده شاعر از داستان‌های قرآنی در شعر خود و نیز استفاده از متن روایی از نظر رخداد و ساختار زمانی و مکانی که منجر به وسعت بخشیدن به افق دید شاعر شده و او را  به متون قرآنی پیوند داده و این گواه بر توانایی زبانی و درک عمیق وی از متن قرآن کریم است. شاعر در تبیین تصاویر شعری از معجم قرآنی در اشکال مختلف استعاره و تشبیه که این تصاویر الهام گرفته از قرآن کریم است بهره می­برد. به کار بردن تصاویر حسی (صوتی و بصری) در متون شعری، گواه بر این است که شاعر شیفته زبان عربی بوده و به آن تسلط کامل داشته و توانسته آن را با مفاهیم قرآن کریم عجین کند.
